Artist and Designer Shannon Alonzo has been working in the local creative industries since 2011, within a variety of roles including Fashion Design, Production Design and Fine Art.
As an alumna of London College of Fashion at the University of the Arts, her creative vision has been equally influenced by her upbringing in the UK and her strong sense of Caribbean identity. Her project collaborations with local design house Meiling Inc Ltd have included work with the Callaloo Company, Costume Design for 3Canal’s annual carnival productions, and Wardrobe Design for the feature documentary ‘Pan! A Modern Odyssey’. Recently, Shannon’s focus has turned to Visual Arts, taking on roles in Art Department for film. These have included Production Design for the upcoming local features ‘Play the Devil’, ‘Moving Parts’ and short film ‘Salty Dog’, as well as television commercials for FLOW and Bmobile, amongst others.
In addition to design, Shannon maintains a Fine Art practice which allows for a very personal expression of her ideas. A collection of her art work entitled ‘Of Smoke and Sunshine’ was presented at Big Black Box in August 2015 and was the culmination of a portfolio development exploring the themes of cultural identity and collective belonging.
Zidelle Daniel and Shannon Alonzo will undertake the costuming for Carnival Medea under the guidance and mentorship of established Fashion Designer Meiling whom they have worked extensively with in recent years.
